An employment agreement or employment contract is a contract between the family business and an employee which is intended to clarify understandings and reduce conflict. Items often addressed in an employment agreement include: salary; incentives; performance expectations; non-compete provisions; employment guarantee for a specific period of time to reassure a family member who is leaving other employment to enter the family business; and agreements regarding the potential for promotions.
